SXSW 2013

thank you so much for all the positivity. my spirits are on the up and up. i’m so glad that there are ebbs and flows to everything really and i count my blessings that the good times far outweight the more challenging ones. so…this pregnant lady had no idea what to pack for austin. while i wouldn’t typically go for tight stretchy skirts they seem to be working for me (at least for now). josh and i had a blast in austin. i am incredibly proud of him and so glad that i could be there for his screening. we saw as many films as time would allow, ate from the food trucks, took a ride to one of the theaters on a bicycle rickshaw and stayed in a really sweet garden cottage. on the way home i somehow ended up in the first seat on the plane . . .

Living our little lives…

every time i take off on one of my adventures, my mom says, “viv ti la vie ou,” live your little life. whenever i step outside of the country and out of my comfort zone, i associate it with living out this tiny life of mine. and so we did. we hopped on a plane and followed summer, down to haiti, where we came together in anticipation of my cousin’s first born child.  haiti nourishes my spirit like no place else in the world.

and then chicago

after the wedding in madison, we bussed it to chicago. i’m so thankful to have such generous friends. they were such great hosts and showed us around this lovely city. our friend’s boyfriend stayed at her place and we stayed in his cozy bachelor pad for a couple of nights. we tried to pack in as much as we could, so we hit up the farmer’s market for crepes, did some thrifting and went on an architectural boat tour. we had some very hot and hazy days, so i threw on the top from my new play suit handmade by quincy. i plan to wear the entire suit before the summer ends, so really soon. i’m so glad we stopped in chicago before heading back to new york. it was so great to catch up with our friends and check out a new city. . . .

Big Sur

we nested in a tiny cabin in the redwood forest, where we enjoyed silence, the buck moon, long hikes, and each other’s company

Santa Barbara & Venice

on our way up from venice to big sur we stopped in santa barbara for some blueberry wheat germ pancakes and coffee with our friend kelli. our drive was six hours in total, two hours to santa barabara and i wanted to be really comfortable so right before we left for our drive up, i bought this trendy little dress from h&m. it’s a bit tighter than dresses i’d normally wear, but hey its vacation time. it was less than fifteen bucks. i’ve been wearing these handmade sandals all summer. i bought them while traveling in brazil. i’ve gotten them repaired recently and really hope they last me forever they work well with pretty much everything. below are a few photos of our days and nights in venice. we brunched at three square twice, i love the huevos rancheros and their signature avocado fries. the nine grain pancakes . . .

Orange Groves

yes, more orange i couldn’t help myself. we snapped these photos on the property of a retirement home in ohai. it’s been a while since i snuck into a place to take photos. i was much more relaxed this time around because we attempted to ask permission to take photos, but couldn’t find anyone. we only found a sweet little granny in the lobby, we briefly spoke to her and she desperately asked us to come back again. we totally should have visited with her longer. gosh as much as i love brooklyn it is so great to be here right now. outfit details: sweater second hand free people, dress vintage, shoes vintage ferragamo, necklace christmas gift from josh

Forest Park

i’ve spent most of my life aside from my time at university in nyc. i’ve run into many celebrities. nicholas cage, steve buscemi and maggie gyllenhaal twice at two different restaurants i frequent in brooklyn (to name a few). i just let these folks be and respect their privacy, because i know that’s what they want, however i was really glad that wes anderson was so amiable and made himself available to meet and greet. he was questioned about his upcoming film and didn’t even put in a plug, he was quite aloof about it. i do not have a list of famous people that i would like to meet, but i have to say that in my brief interaction with wes, his energy comes forth in his work. since i’ve been gushing over wes anderson for the last few days, for good measure i’ve included . . .
