Tulum in 4 Getups

so here’s my attempt at sharing some of my favorite outfits with just one pic each. on day 1 i lost my luggage and had to buy a dress. i was burning up in black jeans and a black tank. i found this embroidered dress and it was sweet relief and i happen to pack my pink sandals. my bag was delivered by the airline to the guest house the following day. you know my heart was aching since i packed so many favorites.

four years ago i got this vintage romper and it was midi length. i thought it would be cute to get it hemmed short, but now i’m undecided if it was the right choice.

i thrifted this dress for $9 and i’m going to break the one photo rule and share the back with . . .

On Choosing Happiness

IMG_0459

josh and i have been chatting a lot about how to make our home a positive space for ourselves and our daughter. we both decided to choose to focus on the positive, which is what makes us all happier. we live in a city of extremes. there is a significant amount of poverty and there is a significant amount of wealth. it’s very easy to want all the flashy new things that come at us from so many angles. i’m going to admit that i’m guilty. i’d love to renovate our kitchen and have a fancy dining room set, heck i’d love to stop sleeping on a futon mattress and get a real mattress and a queen at that. the list of wants are long, but i am very grateful for what i have. my little family, our health and our home that . . .

Denim on Denin

so i remember when my dad would wear his dad jeans, the classic fit ones that had the permanent imprint of his wallet on the back pocket. he’d wear those jeans with a denim button down shirt and my sister and i would tell him, “no denim on denim!” i recently learned this is also called a canadian tuxedo. well i guess my dad was ahead of his time cause here you have it.

my arm pits look dark or maybe they needed a shave, they probably needed a shave.

p.s. another way i styled these . . .

The Cheese Bus

over labor day we celebrated our friends marriage in wisconsin. we took the cheesy weezy from our hotel to the wedding venue. don’t let me get started on the cheese bus shenanigans. so the day before the wedding i went to get a mani pedi and beacon’s closet is across the street from the nail spot. i stopped in and found this dress.  i knew that the wedding was an anything goes deal as far as attire, so when i scored this second hand dress for eleven bucks i was thrilled. i got my splendid sandals on sale for forty five bucks and the bag is vintage and was gifted. my total casual wedding getup was fifty six bucks. see, i told y’all i was changing my ways. erm i won’t calculate my hair and nails into the . . .

We’re all golden sunflowers inside

we stole away to wisconsin to see our friends get married. in route to our hotel we happened upon a sunflower farm. for a city girl like myself, it was momentous. sunflowers as far as the eyes could see.

Vintage Pleated Midi

what with nursery school fees, mortgage payments and on and on. i’ve learned to be a bit more financially savvy with my clothing budget. don’t get me wrong there’s still room for improvement, but i think i’m better. i use to tell myself that i couldn’t remix outfits, but now i have to, so i’ve forced myself to learn. rebecca of a clothes horse is very clever with her remixes and i admire how she can get so many looks out of a single dress. with that said, this was a vintage secretary outfit. it has a matching blouse that was way too big. the skirt,  i decided to keep and the top i traded in to beacon’s closet, where i originally got it. the two piece with the high collar felt dated and a white top gave it a crisp modern feel. oh and this is my brand . . .

The Insta Outfit

every time i throw on a jumpsuit or romper of any type, it brings me back to my 5 year old self. back in the 80’s my mom loved dressing us in what she’d call a salopette. i love seeing my daughter in them too. the only issue i have with them is that i get nervous in public restrooms that someone will walk in on me and i’ll be completely disrobed. it hasn’t happened yet, knock on wood, and i hope it never does.

so i have to say that i am loving red lipstick. sometimes when i’m in a rush i’ll quickly put some on and not doing anything else, yet feel so put together. i was inspired by simplycyn as she rocks bold . . .

Before It’s Too Late…

i’ve been doing a much better job at keeping my impulse buys to a minimum and taking time to really think through purchases. now that i can say with full confidence that i am no longer a shopaholic, i want to learn how to make really good coffee so i can treat myself to a latte once or twice a week, but not make it a daily habit. same with sweet treats, i need to make a rule for myself that if i want something sweet like pastries or cookies, i have to bake it myself and not go out to a cafe and buy it. this will likely cut down on my sugar consumption or make me a better baker. so back in april, i used my birthday as an excuse to treat myself to something. i was on the hunt for the perfect pair of white, . . .

First Mother’s Day

so just like that i’ve inherited a new holiday. i didn’t think much of it really, but boy did josh take it seriously the entire mother’s day weekend. i’d be sitting on the couch and he would offer me a drink, he was so so sweet to me. he’s usually pretty sweet, but he was a bit extra. initially, my impulse was to tell him to just treat the weekend like any other, but then i thought hey, this is a good deal. i can sit on the sofa watching call the midwife and have him bring me a drink or some snacks. i’ll take it. the major shift was that i always visit my mom or would take part in whatever activity she wanted, but this year i could decide for my little family. i chose to go up to storm king  art center. it was a . . .

33rd Birthday

as you can see from the infrequency of my posts, i certainly have my hands full. last thursday, as i begrudgingly headed to work on my birthday, i came across these blooming trees. i decided i was ready to be back here in this space, as a gift to myself. a tad wrinkled and a bit linty, but hey… such is life. my skin is quite dry after such a long, harsh, cold winter and i may just get a facial. the last time i got one was for my wedding. with how busy it’s been the past ten months so many things went by the wayside and taking care of my skin was one of them. believe it or not my hair is three times this length. i got it trimmed for my birthday and while i never blow it . . .
