my new hairdo…i don’t quite have a reason why except that it was time. so urgently so that once i had resolved to cut my hair it had to be done immediately. the idea was looming over me for quite some time years now and i finally had the guts to do it. this is my second big chop and it never ceases to amaze me how attached we can get to an identity. i’ve settled into this new self and i am basking in the freshness of it.

outfit details: hat vintage, blazer vintage, blouse asos, pants vintage 3.00, boots dolce vita

Oh Monique. How beautiful! The new look suits you well.
So fierce!
Your hair looks so good!!! I saw your last post, but I did not think you cut so much of it off. How do you get that texture? What product do you use??. I started wearing my hair in a TWA in October, but I can’t get that textured look. I’ve been thinking about going to a natural hair care salon, but I really don’t want to.
I tried using different products but it doesn’t come out that way. It looks like we have the same texture. My hair just ends up looking fluffy after I comb it, which is nice but I want a different look sometimes. Do you do a twist out or braid out? Thanks!
Beautiful. That video felt peaceful to watch.
I felt the same way when I did my big chop in 2010. I wanted to hold on to the length a little longer but one day I decided I couldn’t deal with it anymore and that it needed to go. And so I did it.
I didn’t know what I was going to do with it, but funny how things work out when you just go into it. I haven’t regretted it since.
Cute video and you look great with the short do. How adorable is that vintage hat.
*SQUEEEAAAALLL*
Oh my dear girl you look so beautiful!!
I couldn’t watch the video cuz i’m at work and my office is silent, but OMG the pics!!! *droooooool*
Congrats on the new chop, new do, new identity, new you.
PS your face in the 2nd pic is the cutest ever.
UNRELATED: what squatting should I be doing in the 3rd trimester? You mentioned it in the comments on my blog.
WOW Monique! So brave, and so stylish. Love the new do.
Go Tipa, Tipa!!! LOL I don’t know why, but sometimes when I see your posts, in my head, I’m like…”That’s so Tipa, Tipa”!
Anywhoo…
You look gorgeous!
I recently started following your blog (last month or so). I really enjoy it and your hair-looks beautiful either way. Natural just about 20 years and have done the so called “big chop” several times. Sometimes you just need to reconnect.
By the way your shoes always look so stylish with comfort.
You look awesome Monique. I love the outfit too, especially the hat on your new hair. And thank you for spelling ado right… it’s mispelling around the blogosphere brings me close to nervous collapse!

you always rock no matter which hairstyle.
Hi, I’ve followed your blog for some time now but never commented. Your hair is beautiful and it suits you well! I also cut my locs off in Sept 2011 and have worn it super short in a brush cut since then. I recently started growing it out and you certainly have given me inspiration!
Gorgeous!!!
I absolutely love it!!! Gorgeous!!!
congrats on your chop. you i look great, monique. i was scared to cut off my straight hair for the longest, but once i did it i felt really good about myself.
Looks great! I’ve always been envious of women who can rock a short haircut, and you definitely can.
hello gorgeous. x
it looks fantastic!!! You look great!
Wow. Ok so you were beautiful with your dreads but even more so with this short hair cut. Didn’t think it was possible for you to look any more pretty but this haircut shows your beautiful face even more. I love it. It reminds me of when I first went natural and did the big chop.
Girl, you look so pretty. I mean it! Short hair suits you well. Plus, it goes well with your complete outfit (hat included). Your paisley print pants are amazing! Such a unique color, print, and style of trouser.
So many sweet comments and kind word reflecting your beautiful light! You’re tops, ‘Mo and look as beautiful as ever!
Bless!

p.s. my current post is dedicated to you!

BEAUTIFUL!
Holy crap, you look gorgeous. That cut is perfect for you.
With locs or without you are adorable. Seriously, could you be any cutier( is cutier a real word? if not , you get what I’m trying to say right ?!) You look adorable with short hair, it suits you. I, on the other hand, looked like an alien when I cut my hair. I would love to tell you I’m joking, but I’m not. Ive tried super short hair and it was an epic fail. I envy your options. Girl, it looks good on you.
Monique you look beautiful!!! Its so easy to become attached looking a certain way and taking a set to do something different is so gratifying. I hope your feeling better and best getting all your goals accomplished.
I almost didn’t watch that video but boy am I sure glad I did!! How beautiful and inspiring, looks like lots of symbolism there but so positive too- you look so happy at the end & picked the perfect song. You AMAZING w/ short hair, so pretty & spunky & of course those pants are great too!
