on new year’s eve my friend texted me that she would be wearing a pretty insane outfit for our night out. josh and i were still doing some last minute cleaning as we wanted to go into the new year with a spotless apartment. i didn’t even think about what i was going to wear. i noticed a lot of sequins online for new year’s eve outfits but i wanted to wear what i already had. i totally forgot that i had sequins in my closet. for my birthday josh went into my etsy favorites and bought me a few things. this dress from custard heart vintage was one of them. it worked out well because i wanted to follow the brazilian tradition of wearing white/ light colors to go into the new year. while i haven’t experienced new year’s in brazil yet. one of the traditions . . .

getting up to the roof is no small feat. there is an alarm system which prohibits us from accessing the roof from the staircase, so we have to get up there by climbing through our window and walking up the fire escape. our building was built in the 1940′s. i’m unsure when buildings were required to have fire escapes but this is certainly an original. it is pretty rusty and its a fairly steep climb. on our journey up we’ve once frightened a small child who was looking out the window (we are on the 5th floor of a 6th story building). we get barked at by a this pitbull that lives behind one of the smaller buildings and step over a squirrel’s habitat. once we get up there the view is lovely and there’s certainly an ease to taking photos without an audience. these shorts . . .

in the summer of 05′,we took a trip down to chincoteague/asateague with a roll of film in tow. this is where our love story begins i suppose. since my resident photographer is out of town this week, i thought i’d dig into the archives and share how it all began. i can’t believe it’s been almost seven years.

photographer fabrice wittner created his first installation of stencils to commemorate those who lost their lives in the massive earthquake that hit christchurch, new zealand last year. his second installation is based on city mouse/country mouse. he made stencils of “country side kids wandering the city of hanoi, visiting their town mouse cousins.” this idea was born while he toured vietnam. he noticed tourists being “sniffy and picky with the local people from the mountains.” i find his work to be really powerful. read more about it here and here. images . . .

one month has already escaped us and it’s time to look at what goals were accomplished during the month of january and what the focus will be for february. i was able to cross off a third of the goals in my 12 before 2012 which i’m really excited about but still so much more to go…as far as wellness is concerned, i did get my quarterly body scrub and it was worth every penny. i must admit, it felt a bit indulgent but boy does my skin feel amazing. i’m still working on getting more sleep. i probably average 5-7 hours as oppose to the 8-9 my body needs. if you’ve noticed i haven’t been around to visit, please bare with me it’s because i’ve decided to make some time for sleep. i’ve been taking a course on social emotional learning to better support my students and . . .
