we saw this film this afternoon and quite loved it. i have to admit i was on the fence about seeing a black & white silent film but it was well crafted and thoroughly entertaining. the leads berenice bejo and jean dujardin were brilliant. have a lovely weekend and happy new year!

2011 was a whirlwind to say the least. i turned 30, got married, honeymooned in barbados, landed my dream job and continue to fall ever so deeply in love with my husband everyday. i’m so grateful for his photography skills, good looks and good cooking. he truly is my favorite. i’m also grateful for my wonderful family and the new family i gained this year. i can’t imagine what my life would be like without these freakin adorable kids in my life. i’m so grateful to be their auntie. thank you all for your visits and lovely comments. in 2012 i hope to share more of brooklyn with you. i say . . .

although josh and i have been together for six years. this was our second christmas together. our very first christmas was spent in argentina, where he proposed. my unexpected engagement ring was the only gift exchanged. this year josh joined my family for christmas. my parent’s house was so full of energy and the holiday spirit. we decorated the tree together, made our own ornaments and baked a ton. back when i was a kid my dad would offer to take us to the beach if we ate all our dinner. it was so lovely to cycle on the boardwalk or fly a kite as the sun went down. this time around we ate so much food that a stroll along the boardwalk was necessary to walk off the pie, sugar cookies and all the savory goodies my mom made. i was hoping to get the whole family out . . .

this year i decided to doll up the frame with some trees. i enjoyed using holly and fresh flowers but i wanted something that wouldn’t die in a few days. i was really inspired by this forest and kept picking up trees throughout the year. i’m really happy with how it turned out. this collection of trees will certainly be out on display every christmas for many years to come.

the last few days have been a whirlwind. between holiday dinner parties with friends, secret santa and holiday parties at work, buying last minute gifts and baking goodies for my students it’s been so busy but so much fun. i’ve been in an 80′s r&b mood and can’t seem to get this song out of my head. it won’t be long now. i can’t wait to make ornaments and bake cookies with my nieces and nephews.

the dekalb market is an outdoor market ‘housed in a collection of salvaged shipping containers.’ we bumped into dafnei and found out she sells these amazing bags that were handmade in haiti. i’m in love with all the detailed beading work. i really want that beaded chevron clutch. the jewelry was incredible. i can’t wait to go back and pick up some handmade gifts for friends.

it’s officially cold in ny. like 26 degrees fahrenheit cold. the last time i wore this sweater to visit my parents my mom said it looked like a christmas sweater. so i thought it’d be fun to play it up. i adore isla’s primary colors outfit and was inspired to bust out some yellow and red on a cold blistery day. i ended up looking quite crazy with this getup. i didn’t care one bit, wearing yellow always boosts me up. this outfit is so matchy-matchy and ridiculously bright, but it put me in the best mood though. to stay warm i had no choice but to dance. a post in real time for once. today i threw on this second hand dress i thrifted last month. back when i was in high school, during the days leading up to christmas, my teachers would get into the spirit by wearing christmas colors, those horrendous christmas sweaters and candy cane earrings. i thought it’d be fun to continue the tradition minus the earrings. maybe i’ll wear an ungly sweater just for fun.
