we snapped these photos on the roof just before irene showed up with lots of rain. in a little over a week there will be some major changes. yours truly will be teaching literature and history to high schoolers. i will also be biking to work. i’ve been eager to become a part of a school community that is progressive and i found just the right fit. it will be a fairly significant pay cut for me but well worth it. this will force me to only purchase things that i absolutely am head over heals for which will make for a solid wardrobe. i will also do more thrifting. seriously i can’t wait. change is good. this chevron tank was a bit tricky it had no tags and i couldn’t figure out which side was the front? anyone else ever have that happen. this tank is certainly one of my best finds of the summer. i even hand washed it so it wouldn’t get ruined because i love it so much. warning below there’s a close up photo and i’m terrible with liquid eye liner any tips?
outfit details: scarf vintage, tank vintage, pants anthro sale, booties boutique 9, satchel vintage, earrings gifted

lovely outfit! good luck with teaching. unfortunately i’m not good with liquid eyeliner (or any eyeliners), so i don’t have any tips
lovely as usual! who takes your pictures! they are fantastic. the first shot is beautiful. i really don’t wear make-up so i couldn’t help:-( you look beautiful without it!
Thanks lady, my husband takes my photos.
Lovely outfit and woman! love the first shot!
ohmygosh. That duck umbrella is simply. Amazing. I love all the colors in your outfit! I hope Irene doesn’t hit you too hard. Good luck with your teaching venture! Job fulfillment is where it is at!
you are just so stunning .. love the outfit and the closeup! i don’t think your eyeliner looks bad at all … i don’t have any tips that i could even really explain … but the only thing i can say is that when i do it, i pretend like i am tracing. has always helped me apply it properly.
Check out Lisa Eldrige’s YouTube videos! She’s an awesome make-up artist and her videos have really been a help to me.
thanks, will do!
Wow! Teaching … would you tell your students you have a fashion blog?
I am quite terrible with liquid eye liners so wouldn’t be able to help, sorry! Love the satchel!!!

Tanvi oh no, i will not be their FB friends nor will i share this blog with them. we are already on a first name basis at the school so definitely need to have boundaries.
Your husband is a great photographer and you a wonderful model
.
I am so happy you are going to teach history and literature. Those are the two subjects I adore – what topic are you going to explore?
Oh, how I would like to sit in your lectures.
toi we are going to explore journey and transformation in literature and genocide and the human condition in history. thanks lady i’m super excited!
Now, I would really LoVe to be a chair and a desk in your class – if you ever get an empty desk and chair (which I hope you don’t) think of me sitting there – you can put my name there
. I recently read The Book of Negroes and I believe it’s a perfect novel which explores journey and transformation – (any other good titles you can suggest?)
Yes, all of Jamaica Kincaid books and Interpreter of maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri. I’m not teaching these but their my personal favorites.
change is definitely good, and i am so excited to hear that you’ll start to teach high schoolers, i think it’ll be a great experience!
as for your outfit, it’s perfect! i especially like those awesome shoes. oh, and the last picture is so beautiful!
hope irene wasn’t too bad.

Thanks! how did everything go where you live? sounds like there wasn’t really that much damage anywhere….so that’s nice. congratulations on your teaching position, that sounds so awesome! and you look so so great as always, LOVE those shoes!
Things are okay here. I live close to Prospect Park, lots of flooding in the park some large trees snapped but not too bad overall.
congrats! Change is awesome as is thrifting. You look like you know what you are doing with that eyeliner. For me, its all in the brush. I need that pen like style one or to use a paint brush.
x
Your shoes are so cool! Great look!
Definitely the best-dressed high school teacher I’ve seen.
love the outfit! and i could definitely use some liquid liner tips as well!
I have a lot of teacher friends that have a specific FaceBook page that they use with their students. Most of them have emphasized that it really helps bonding, knowing what they are up to, etc. Might be something to think about. Regardless, congrats on the new job. Exciting!
As far as liquid eyeliner? A very steady hand and very short, tiny lines across the lid vs. one long line. This way you are less apt to go “crooked”. Hope this helps!
those booties are beautiful!! i love the color!
That’s so cool! If I was a teacher I’d definitely want to teach highschool…at an awesome progressive school. haha seriously! Maybe because I loved my highschool so much and feel like it was like that. I bet you’ll be amazing. That’s so exciting!!!! And your outfit is beautiful as usual, those shoes are so fun, love them!
Hey lovely lady! I’ve been meaning to e-mail you since I couldn’t meet up with you in NYC. My trip got cut much shorter than I wanted it to due to a new job. But next time I am there, we will definitely make it happen! And it is so awesome to hear about the new job. I just started working in a high school as well. It’s odd being called Ms. Rubin. Can’t wait to hear all about your teaching adventures. xx
Congrats Jen! Next time your around these parts certainly get in touch. It is weird being call Ms. isn’t it. At our school they just call us by our first names which is going to be weird because I’m use to Miss from back when I taught a few years ago. So happy for you! Congrats again…
Beautiful outfit, as usual! I’m glad to hear the hurricane has gone, even gladder to know you ok! Good luck with your new job/ biking! I’m sure you will do it all very stylishly!
As for liquid liner, I can use it, but I prefer Gel. It doesn’t smudge and easier to apply! I used to be a make-up artist and I’m a bit of a make-up junkie so I’ve done the leg work!
Have fun experimenting with your look!
Girl about Town XxX
You look fantastic! I love the pants and your shoes! I’ve definitely had the same issue with trying to figure out which way a garment goes. It’s a pain isn’t it?
It sounds like you have a lot of new changes on your plate– I’m glad that they are ones to be taken positively and that you’re doing something you enjoy. xx
your shoes are amazing!!!! love them!!!!

nautical+mustard yellow= perfect combination! I always find if i stretch my eyelid outwards to the side, the surface is a lot flatter so the eyeliner is easier to apply
seriously in love with this, shoes are super.
Congrats on the new job!it must be a really exciting period for you!why do you say that it is going to be a pay cut for you?
*although money-wise I always think that less money make you more creative!
